Hi, I’m Lucas Gil Nadolskis — a PhD student in Dynamical Neuroscience at UC Santa Barbara, working in the Bionic Vision Lab. I research the intersection of accessibility, neuroscience, and technology, with a focus on visual prosthetics and making science genuinely usable for blind and low-vision people.

I’ve been blind since the age of five. My path has taken me from Brazil to the University of Minnesota, then to Carnegie Mellon for a master’s, and now to UCSB — studying how the brain processes vision and how we might restore it through bionic eyes and cortical implants.

Braille Mind is where I write about that work and about the day-to-day reality of doing STEM as a blind researcher: the tools, the workarounds, the open problems, and the occasional small victories. Everything here lives at the meeting point of three things I care about — accessibility, neuroscience, and technology — combined, fittingly, in six dots.
